The following obstacles have been featured in past 10K Plus races. While most will be included in 2010, this list is not all-inclusive.
Balance Beam Obstacle:
Info: This obstacle contains a 6-inch wide piece of wood that all participants must cross without falling off. All runners must complete the balance beam in its entirety before being allowed to move on to the next obstacle. If a participant falls off any part of the balance beam, they must go back and start over until they complete the full obstacle.
On race day, the balance beam obstacle may or may not include elevation elements, meaning the balance beams will have ascending, descending, and/or flat parts. Please be prepared for all possible variations.
Rope Wall Obstacle:
Info: The rope wall obstacle is a wooden wall with a rope hanging down in front with knots tied in it. There will be both female and mall rope walls. The male rope walls will be 8 feet tall and all male participants must complete the 8 foot male wall. The female rope wall will be 6 feet tall and all female participants will have the option to complete either the female wall or the male wall. All participants must climb over the wall, using the rope for assistance (runners MAY NOT use the side supports of the obstacle to help themselves over) and then jump or climb down the backside, which has supports for your feet to help with a climb down. Once again, runners must complete this obstacle in order to continue on in the race. Participants MAY NOT use the side supports of the obstacle to assist themselves in completing the obstacle. Rather, participants may ask race staff, volunteers and other racers for help over the wall.
Cylinder Crawl Obstacle:
Info: The Cylinder Crawl Obstacle is a large cylinder that participants must crawl through. Participants may get through the tube however they like, but the obstacle must be completed before any racer will be allowed to continue on in the race.
Water Barrier Obstacle:
Info: The water barrier obstacle is a hurdle obstacle. The barriers will be 46” tall and the runners must hurdle any barriers in their way before they will be allowed to move on to the next part of the race. Participants may climb over the barrier rather than “hurdle” and may also solicit the assistance of race staff, volunteers, as well as other racers.
Military Hurdle Obstacle:
Info: The military hurdles will be assembled in sets of 5. Each runner must complete one full set of military hurdles. There will be male and female military hurdles. Men MUST use the male hurdles, while females may choose which set they will complete. Male hurdles are 5 feet tall while female military hurdles are 4 feet tall.
Each runner must use their hands and legs to vault themselves over each hurdle in the set. All hurdles must be completed before the competitor will be allowed to move on to the next obstacle. Runners ARE NOT allowed to use the sides of the obstacle or the brace supports for help. Once again, staff, volunteers, and other racers may be utilized in assistance with the completion of the obstacle.
Net Climb Obstacle:
Info: The net climb obstacle contains a thick rope-net that participants must climb up to the top of a bleacher set. Once the racers reach the top of the rope-net they will have to climb over the bleacher railing and then climb down the bleacher set to continue on with the race. Racers must complete this obstacle before they will be allowed to continue on in the race. Runners may use the assistance of race staff, volunteers, and other racers in completing the obstacle.
Military Crawl Obstacle:
Info: The military crawl obstacle will contain a rope-net that is roughly 2 feet off the ground and spans about 10 feet. All participants must crawl under the rope-net in order to continue on the race.
