Rules and Regulations

Overall:

  • Racers must complete race course and obstacles on their own. The use of support people is not allowed, at any time. Racers may ask race volunteers, those in the labeled “RACE STAFF” shirts, for help. Racers may also help each other during the race, if they so choose.
  • In order to complete the race, all obstacles MUST be completed. If a racer cannot complete any obstacle during the course of the race, a race staff member will disqualify the racer. This simply means the racer will not be allowed to “place” at the end of the course. Racers may still complete the race course, however.
  • Racers must follow course markers, and are responsible for doing so, without exception.
  •  All racers must wear their official AustinSSC 10K+ Adventure Race numbered bib throughout the entire duration of the race. It must be clearly visible on the racer at all times. The bib must also remain unaltered.
  • AustinSSC Race Management reserves the right to alter the course and/or obstacles at any point for logistical, safety, or weather concerns.
  • As always with AustinSSC events, spectator support is 100% encouraged and recommended.

Obstacles:

  • As stated above, all obstacles must be fully completed in order for the individual/team to be considered for placement at the conclusion of the race.
  • Participants are not allowed to use the support braces of the obstacles to assist themselves in completing the given obstacle. Racers may ask staff members for help (located at each obstacle) and racers may also assist other racers in completing obstacles.
  • Failure to complete any obstacle will result in disqualification from placement in the race. Racers may still finish the course on a purely recreational purpose if this occurs, and are encouraged to do so.

Timing:

  • All awards will be solely based on chip time. Official timing chips can be acquired on race day near the start line. Further instructions on time chip placement and use will be provided by the timing chip booth officials.
  • All participants will be assigned a specific wave. You must start with your assigned wave or you will be disqualified from placement at the conclusion of the race. Racers will still be allowed to complete the course on a purely recreational purpose if this occurs.
  • Wave staging will begin approximately thirty (30) minutes prior to the start of the race. Signs will be posted on race day near the start line designating the specific waves. Once staging begins, participants can line-up in their respective waves on a first-come, first-serve basis.
  • Their will be an official race-time clock posted by the start/finish line. This is clock-time and will not be used when determining final awards.
  • The official race clock will begin when the first wave begins and will stop when the last individual crosses the finish line.

Awards:

  • Awards will be determined based on chip-time and will be given out at the conclusion of the race. Award recipients must be present to receive the award, as none will be mailed out.

Medical Issues:

  • Participants will be allowed to complete the race having received basic first aid treatment from medical staff on hand only (traveling in a ATV).
  • In the event of injury, medical staff will be contacted and they will decide upon further action at the site of the incident.
  • Austin SSC Race Management reserves the right to remove any participant in the event a medical issue deems them unfit to complete the race course safely.

Relay/Distance Teams:

  • Teams consist of two members and can compete in two separate ways. The two racers can each run the entire course and their times will be combined. This is referred to as a “distance team”. Or each member much run half the course (approximately 3.1 miles) and their times are combined. This is referred to as a “relay team”.
  • In the event you choose to split the race (relay team), teams do not need to decide who is running which leg prior to the event. On race day, the team member who is completing the second leg of the race will be shuttled to the halfway point where they will commence the race upon their partner meeting them.
  • Please be aware of the difference between a “distance team” and a “relay team”. A “distance team” consists of two runners who both complete the ENTIRE course and their times are combined to determine placement in the “distance team” category. A “relay team” consists of two runners with each runner only completing HALF of the course (approximately 3.1 miles). The two times are then combined to determine placement in the “relay team” category.
